I used to be in your exact position, so I understand the mental roller coaster of being a naturally skinny guy. I am super pumped to give you guys three more of my outside-the-box “tricks” to gain weight and build rock solid lean muscle mass.

I am always so passionate to share with you guys my secrets because it took me years of trial and error to figure out a lot of these things, and I feel obligated to give back to all of the naturally skinny guys who deserve to feel confident in their own bodies and pack on rock solid lean muscle mass. I know you guys feel the need to gain weight fast, but just stay consistent and keep focused on your goals and it will happen sooner than later.

I would have never guessed when I first started working out that my body would end up being my greatest asset instead of my biggest liability. Back when I was a 130-pound sophomore in high school, this seemed like the furthest thing from my reality. Now I am proud to say that the only stares I get are the “envious stares” from other men and the “impressed stares” from beautiful women. This may seem like I’m bragging, but I want to always reiterate to you guys that having a muscular and impressive physique is 100 percent attainable for anyone – regardless of genetics and where you are at right now. I was the furthest thing from being a fitness model when I first started.

I always just told myself, “I need to gain weight” and “I want to do it quickly.” This is where my creativity started to take over, and I have come up with a huge list of outside-the-box “tricks” that will help any skinny guy asking himself the pesky little question, “How do I gain weight?”

Let me dive right into my 3 tricks. These are tricks that you can incorporate into your lifestyle immediately.

I Need To Gain Weight – Trick 1

Post-Workout-Insulin-Spike-To-Gain-WeightA lot of guys ask me how many calories they need to gain weight. This is different for everybody, so I always tell them that they need to focus on consuming a surplus of calories that triggers the release of vital anabolic hormones.

One of the most important anabolic hormones for skinny guys to stimulate is the post-workout insulin spike. How to gain weight fast starts with proper nutrition timing. You want to time your post-workout insulin spike directly after your intense training session. This is when your insulin can become highly anabolic, helping you guys pack on slabs of lean muscle mass in record time.

You guys want to consume a fast digesting protein source along with a fast digesting carbohydrate source to spike your insulin and fuel those muscle-building nutrients into your cells. This is achieved with a post-workout shake consisting of approximately a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. I recommend dextrose powder as a cheap and effective post-workout carbohydrate source to spike your insulin. Any kind of low fat whey concentrate or whey isolate will suffice just fine for your protein.

It’s really hard to answer because of so many factors, but if you have been working out for a considerable amount of time with very slow results, the answer is obviously MORE calories than you are currently consuming. You need to create a calorie surplus to give your body the anabolic muscle-building fuel to gain weight fast.

One of the most delicious things you can do to gain weight fast is to incorporate nut butters into your diet. I enjoy about 5-6 tablespoons of nut butters per day when I am trying to gain the maximum amount of lean muscle mass. Nut butters such as almond butter and peanut butter are loaded with protein and monounsaturated fats.

Most naturally skinny guys do not consume enough healthy fats. Healthy fats are one of the easiest ways to gain weight fast because they are 9 calories per gram, as opposed to carbohydrates and protein at only 4 calories per gram.

I absolutely love eating peanut butter or almond butter straight out of the jar. By consuming just 2 tablespoons of nut butter, you are giving yourself 200 calories of muscle-building fuel. It is really easy to eat 5-6 tablespoons of nut butter per day, giving you an extra 600 calories per day. Now that is a delicious way to create a calorie surplus!

High-Calorie-Breakfast-To-Gain-WeightLast but not least, my third trick is to eat a high calorie breakfast. I noticed that on days when I wasn’t consuming enough calories, it usually started with breakfast. Your days may get really busy and hectic, and before you know it, 5 or 6 hours have gone by and you haven’t gotten a chance to eat.

This is awful for a naturally skinny guy trying to build the maximum amount of lean muscle mass. You want to start your day off right, and I suggest consuming a really high calorie breakfast.

Breakfast is one of the most important times of the day to create an anabolic atmosphere in your body and set the stage for a calorie surplus. I will consume close to 1,000 calories for breakfast pretty routinely. Here is an example of the things I eat when consuming a high calorie breakfast:

  • 4-5 egg whites
  • 2-3 whole eggs
  • Top the eggs with sliced avocado and cook with 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • Bowl of oatmeal with ground chia seeds and flax seeds
  • Slice of sprouted grain bread with 2 tbsp of nut butter
  • Large glass of carrot juice

This is the kind of muscle-building breakfast I’m talking about. Everything on this menu is quality calories and will help you gain weight fast.

This breakfast is a great combination of lean protein, healthy fats loaded with omegas, and complex carbohydrates for all-day energy.
